It's about 6:00 AM, and I've arrived at Brunswick Lake. I usually run two to four one-mile loops around the lake before turning back toward home again. Today, it will be two and a half.
I pick it up a bit. This isn't saying a lot since my first three miles were agonizingly slow. But it occurs to me that I generally do better when I'm running loops. I wish I knew why. Maybe because I don't need to work about getting lost or getting hit by a car. But that's only a guess.
After a couple speedy miles, my pace slows a little for the trip back to the house. That's just the way I roll.
